Questions We Hear a Lot

How much is this going to cost?

Two things drive it: the amount you are moving and how easy the in and out is. A two-mover crew with a truck starts at $115/hr, and you see an itemized written estimate before we carry a single box. Want a hard ceiling? Ask for a flat cap and the signed figure is all you can be charged. Out-of-state runs are quoted on weight and mileage.

How do you handle a move in the Buffalo winter?

We move straight through it, that is half of what we do here. The crew salts the walk and the steps, drops runners over wet floors so nothing gets tracked in, and shrink-wraps upholstery against the slush and road spray. Lake-effect days get a little slower and a lot more careful, and we plan the loading around the worst of the squalls.

My place is an old Buffalo double with narrow stairs. Can you handle that?

That is our bread and butter. The doubles and Victorians in North Buffalo, Elmwood, Parkside, and Allentown all have tight turns, steep old staircases, and front porches to work around. We measure the doorways, pad the newel posts and jambs, and hand-carry or hoist whatever will not make the corner.

There is no driveway and street parking is tight. Is that a problem?

No, we deal with it on most city moves. Tell us the block when you book and we sort the truck spot, pull a temporary parking permit where the city requires one, and keep the carry as short as we can. On the day the crew shows up ready for a curbside load, not a driveway.

When do you start charging?

The clock starts when the crew begins working at your door, not when we leave the yard. After the first hour it runs in one-minute steps, so ten extra minutes costs ten minutes, not a whole rounded-up hour. You hear the crew rate and how we handle drive time before a single box moves.

Is a deposit required?

A small refundable one holds your date, nothing more. It comes straight off your final total as a credit, so it is never an extra charge. Cancel with a couple of days’ notice and you get it back in full. It is all written on your booking from the start.

When and how do I pay?

Payment comes after the job wraps, never up front. We take credit and debit cards, plus check and cash. The crew does not pull away until you have looked over the final total and okayed it on the spot.

Do you expect a tip?

We do not, and we never sneak one onto the bill. When a crew really earns it, folks often hand over ten to fifteen percent to split, cash or card, but that is completely up to you.

Is there anything you will not move?

A few things, mostly by law and for safety: propane, gasoline, paint, and other flammables, plus ammunition, house plants, food that spoils, and pets. If something is extra large, heavy, or valuable, flag it when you book so we bring the right people and gear.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Good and Fair Moving holds New York household-goods authority and carries full insurance, and every job runs with our own crew from start to finish, no broker skimming the middle. If you want to see the authority numbers and coverage details, just say so, and we will walk you through your valuation choices before anything is signed.

What if something gets damaged?

Solid padding keeps it uncommon, but if a piece does take damage we document it on the spot and file the claim the same day. Before we start, we walk you through basic versus full-value protection, so you know precisely how a claim would go.

How far ahead should I book?

A week or two suits most local moves. The end of the month and the summer stretch book up quick, so give three or four weeks then, and a bit more for a Saturday. First-of-the-month leases in the student areas fill fast too. Even so, a short-notice slot can free up, so give us a ring either way.

Will you move a piano, a safe, or a pool table?

For sure, by folks who handle this kind of thing every week. An upright or a baby grand, a gun safe, a slate pool table, an heirloom, a framed canvas, every one of them rides on the right board or dolly with the proper straps and blankets, and we build a crate to fit when a piece earns it.

Will you pack for me?

As much or as little as you want. The whole house? We will box it. Only the kitchen and the artwork? That too. We arrive with real boxes and paper, write the room on every carton, and will unpack you at the other end once the truck is clear.

Do you move out of state?

Yes, and it stays on one of our trucks with one of our crews the whole trip. Nothing gets brokered, nothing is dumped into someone else’s trailer at a depot, and your delivery window is one you can actually build a week around.

Do you offer storage?

We do. Whether it is a few weeks between closings or a stretch of months while the next place comes together, your things sit in a clean, locked space with everything itemized. Our crew handles the load in and the load back out, so a second truck rental never comes up.

I’m moving to the Buffalo area from out of town. Can you help?

For sure, plenty of our work is folks landing back in WNY. We line up the delivery window, meet you at the new place, and handle the parking, the walk-up, or the building rules on this end. Your things ride on our truck with our crew, never sold off to whoever bids lowest that week.

Can I reschedule or cancel?

Absolutely. Move your date or cancel with at least a couple of days’ notice and the deposit comes back in full. Every term sits in your booking in plain language, so there is nothing to guess at later.
